Alice Guy-Blaché Flipbook

This flipbook features six different stories depending on the position of your thumb as well as augmented reality, viewable when scanning the slipcase with your smartphone or tablet: a 2-minutes micro-documentary about the artists life, his background and his most outstanding work.  THE MOTHER OF CINEMA Alice Guy-Blaché (1873 – 1968) was a pioneer French filmmaker and the first motion picture director to make a narrative fiction film, active from the late 19th century.  Neglected by film historians for years, she was the first woman to direct a film. From 1896 to 1920, she directed over 1,000 films, some 150 of which survive, and 22 of which are feature-length. She experimented with Gaumont’s Chronophone sync-sound system, color tinting, interracial casting and special effects.
