When the children dreamed of being astronauts, doctors or firefighters, I only thought of colored pencils. It was probably because my father made a living painting and sculpting all kinds of materials. I didn't grow up in a museum, but almost. Teenage rebellion took me away from colored pencils and from the house-museum. Without knowing very well why I ended up in a laboratory, wearing a white coat, and wondering what I had done to deserve this.
After some time I returned to the house-museum. My father was still there. With more years, more paintings and determined to master an old artistic technique that gave Warhol such good results: screen printing. A quick and efficient way to stamp drawings on any surface. It was then that I saw it clearly. I could finally show the world my designs. How? Well, stamp them on t-shirts. What would have become of Warhol's cows if they hadn't come out of the Museum of Modern Art New York in the form of a t-shirt, mug, umbrella or who knows what. My drawings had to jump off the paper.
A couple of basic graphic design courses were enough for me to improve, with my computer, the drawings that I had been doing since I was a child. The next step was to see the reaction of people when they saw my creations. With some caution I was showing them to friends, acquaintances, friends of acquaintances, acquaintances of acquaintances... and as much as I widened the circle, I always ended up hearing the same thing: what cool t-shirts! The T-shirt business failed; they always say that you learn from mistakes, so after time with the maturity of age I decided to hang up that lab coat that accompanied me for thirteen years helping me lead a comfortable life, leave my hometown (Valencia) and start a new life in Madrid. A life full of challenges and difficulties, but carrying out my parked vocation.
To expand my knowledge during an intensive year, I took a Master's degree in communication and strategic design and delved into some of my own design programs. With a stronger knowledge base and mastery of the necessary tools for design, it is now that I am ready to create my own Xoan Viqueira brand and use my name with total conviction. That is why in this Web Store you will find things designed, studied and treated with great care, affection and many hours of dedication.
I hope you enjoy my designs as much as I enjoy creating them.
